Rouses Markets to Deliver With Drones

Rouses Markets is looking to drones to help solve the last-mile delivery challenges many grocers are facing as e-commerce orders increase. The Gulf Coast food retailer has partnered with Deuce Drone for a delivery pilot program this fall with an Aerial Drone Delivery Interface System (ADDIS) at the Rouses on Airport Boulevard in Mobile, Alabama.

Sprouts rethinking new store format, size

Sprouts Farmers Market announced Wednesday afternoon that its third-quarter sales and profit both increased 8% over a year ago. While same-store sales rose 1.5%, the company also opened nine new stores during the 13-week period that ended Sept. 29. With the new stores, Phoenix, Ariz.-based Sprouts has 335 stores in 21 states.

Extending its geographic coverage, Alex Lee Inc. plans to buy fellow grocery wholesaler and retailer W. Lee Flowers & Co. Terms of the agreement, announced yesterday, weren’t disclosed. Scranton, S.C.-based W. Lee Flowers distributes to more than 75 grocery stores in the Carolinas and Georgia, including 50 IGA and KJ’s Market supermarkets that it owns and operates.
